Carey Ford- "Singerwhile"
Carey anglicised her name when a bloodless coup ousted her step-uncle as absolute ruler of a small eastern European province and the family was sent into exile. Apart from some indecision in adopting a new name (Milford Haven, Milton Keynes and Welwyn Garden were all considered and perhaps wisely rejected) Carey managed the transition from minor eastern nobility to ordinary UK citizenship without difficulty. Only her preference for travelling in a gilded horse-drawn coach with uniformed footmen in attendance reveals something of her childhood years of luxury and privilege.
Carey is the principle lead singer with everwhile and one of its main writers. She specialises in devising chords and chord sequences on the keyboard that are physically impossible for any sane, averagely talented guitarist with the traditional number of limbs and digits to play.
On the band’s two albums so far Carey has contributed lead and backing vocals, keyboards, percussion and disturbingly infectious laughter.
Her influences include Joni Mitchell and Todd Rundgren.
Carey lives in a magical underwater fortress off the Kent coast, patrolled by sharks and staffed by mermaids. |

Gilly Ralph- "Plannerwhile"
Gilly is a classically trained pianist. Possessing perfect pitch, Gilly can actually identify the frequency of any note simply by studying the effect of its sound wave on dust particles in the room. She is also unique in the band for her ability to read and write (music that is). Ian claims that he was taught to read drum music but the majority feeling in the band is that that doesn’t count.
Her introduction to popular music (and this bit IS true) stems from having No 1 recording artist Kiki Dee lodging with her family when she (Gilly) was a child. Members of Kiki’s band would come round and it was watching the keyboard player that made Gilly think about improvising with chords rather than playing strictly according to the notes as written down.
As well as providing keyboards plus lead and backing vocals Gilly has a key role as musical translator, taking Carey’s musical ideas and VERY SLOWLY explaining them to the two guitarists repeatedly over and over again until at last they get it.
Gilly’s hobbies are painting and decorating, organising things, making lists, scheduling, and analysing historical military campaigns in search of logistical and command-based errors.
Gilly shares a house in Honolulu with Jeff, 3 cats, two boys, and a pet wombat called Simon. |

Ian Lucas- "Drummerwhile"
Known affectionately within the band as “The Drummer” Ian claims to have been drumming for 45 years. You really have to admire that sort of stamina...
Ian began his exploration of the rhythm art by playing knives on a small wooden table belonging to his parents. Rather than earning him the sharp clip round the ear this sort of vandalism probably deserved, in fact it resulted in him being bought his first snare drum and hi-hat. He now owns several more drums and at least two sticks. His musical career has been as varied as it has been very, very long. From cool jazz, to proto-metal, danceable covers band and latterly to everwhile.
These days, Ian uses an electronic kit which gives him (and more importantly whoever happens to be at the controls of the mixer) exact control over his volume level. His ambitions are to read further than page 4 of the owner’s manual without falling into a coma, and to convince the rest of the band that it’d be cool to record an album of poetry accompanied by whale song, pan pipes and Native American chanting. These ambitions are likely to remain unfulfilled. Nevertheless, contrary to the old joke about a drummer’s last words to his band being “Hey guys, why don’t we do one of MY songs?” Ian has made major writing contributions, particularly on “otherwise” and the as yet untitled and unrecorded forthcoming 3rd album.
On recordings Ian has used electronic and acoustic drums and percussion.
His influences include the Dave Clark 5, Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, James Taylor, Carol King, Badfinger and more…many more
Ian lives near (some believe actually inside) Windsor Castle. |

Jeff Gay- "Strummerwhile"
Jeff’s earliest ambition was to be an astronaut, and only his failure at any time to submit an application for the role prevented him from realising his desire to walk on the Moon. He has since settled for walking on Earth as an acceptable compromise and acknowledges that it’s probably safer anyway.
He first started playing the guitar around the age of 12 or 13 and within a few short months his mastery of the instrument was sufficient for him to complete his first major work, a 25 minute, 180 verse, Tolkienesque fantasy accompanied solely by the chords A minor and D minor. Sadly the lyrics to this masterpiece have long since been lost, Jeff can no longer remember whether the chord sequence began with A or D, and all reel to reel recordings of the song in performance have been seized, wiped, burned and buried in a radioactive waste dump somewhere in the Pacific Ocean by members of the Australian special forces.
Jeff has long held a fascination for effects and effects pedals. Now armed with the latest in 15 pin guitar synthesiser technology he specialises in making strange electronic farty noises at inappropriate moments.
Jeff's recording contributions have been on electric and acoustic 6 & 12 string guitars, guitar synths, bass guitar, octave mandola, percussion, vocals, software synths and mixing.
Influences include: Red wine, Yes, Genesis, James Taylor, Beer, Neil Young, The Byrds and a whole host of others.
Jeff lives in Monte Carlo with Gilly, two cats, two boys, and a pet walrus called Boris.

Richard Holford- "Otherwhile"
Richard Robert Holroyd-Holford was a child prodigy at a very early age. Sadly he was compelled to give up his dream of being the world’s most in-demand session didgeridoo player when a routine chest infection left him unable to perform the circular breathing technique required to play that instrument.
Prior to joining everwhile Richard was working as an itinerant goat herd on London’s Tottenham Court Road. His remarkably successful strategy was to offer to look after passing pedestrians’ goats, and then to accept the money which they then swiftly offered him in return for going away and not bothering them anymore.
Although initially asked to join the band on spoons and washboard (during the now-abandoned recording of everwhile’s attempt to reinterpret Wagners Ring Cycle through the medium of skiffle) he has since settled into a more diverse role.
On everwhile recordings Richard plays bass guitar, electric and acoustic guitars and lap steel guitar. In private he has been known to dabble with the mandolin, banjo, ukulele, amongst other unsavoury dabbling habits. He also designed the artwork for the second album, including the mysterious angelic figure on the cover which is not, as many have postulated, a dove, a high flying aircraft or indeed an angel, but is fact two small pieces of toilet paper that he found on the floor of his bathroom. Quite why he had a camera to hand in the bathroom remains a mystery that's perhaps best left unsolved.
Richard lives in a luxury timeshare apartment in a public telephone box in Penury, Hertfordshire
